PowerEdge R710, fans at full speed
Hi All,
Got 3 Dell R710's in an environment.
Installed an additional HDD into a spare slot, all was good.
Approx 2 days later, the fans went nuts... full speed, constantly.
Take out the new drive, same issue, use repository manager to get all firmwares and drivers up to the current level, same issue.
Put the drive back in, works fine.... but the fans are still going at full tilt either way.
The only helpful post ive been able to find suggests hacking the firmware, which seems a bit extreme.
The front panel reports the system temp at 26 deg... so the system isn't actually trying to cool down from anything, the fan controller just seems to have gone a bit nuts.
Any suggestions ?

Hayesj997,
I know you used stated that you used the repository manager, but would you confirm the version your BIOS and iDrac for me, since the iDrac is what controls fan speed? Would you also let me know the processor installed in the server, I ask due to the fact that if a X5698 is installed then the server will ramp the speeds up to maintain airflow for that processor. Which if installed they should have been full speed prior to it climbing up now, but wanted to confirm what is installed.
Let me know what you see.
