PowerEdge T110 II network and SAS

Hi

I have a 2 years old T110 II server and I want to install an additional dual port GB card like Dell Broadcom 5720 for a Hyper-V installation and a Perc H310 card which can be easy found in my country.  But neither one is listed for compatibility with this server.  It is possibile to do that or not ???

Further, when I searched Dell site for H310 it listed only one integrated H310 different than one that I intend to buy  which appears like an ordinary PCI card ! Are they different models for H310 ???

Here Dell barebone servers are advirtised  like working with SAS drives but are sold without Perc controller... :-)

Any help or suggestion will be apreciated. Thanks

Cgales,

Unfortunately the H310 will not work in the T110 II. This is due to the H310 being designed for use specifically in the newer 12th generation servers. In the T110, the supported hardware raid controller would be the H200, or the software raid solution with the S300.

The H310 does have another model, which is designed for use in the Blade model of servers.

Let me know if this helps answer your question.

I was afraid of that. I understood that Dell built specific needs components for specific servers, but as far as they might use standard PCie connectors I wanted to try.  Some explains on the components pages will be usefull for others....

Thank you so much .

Hi Chris

Are you sure that the PERC H310 is not supported on the PowerEdge T110 II ?   I chatted with Dell Sales Support on three occasions and all three tech support said that the PERC H310 is supported on the T110 II.   In fact, it was the first tech who recommended the H310 to us.   See chat record below.

Also, the poster  pcrepairbypc   in      http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/disk-drives/f/3534/t/19367153  said he was able to get the H310 working on the T110 II.

The link below also suggests that H310 works on the T110 II.

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Hardware/Servers/Q_28251582.html

We bought the PERC H310 on the recommendation of the Dell Sales Support, but unfortunately, we cannot get it working on the T110 II.   The H310 BIOS is not detecting any physical drives at all.    Also, in the manual for the T320 (which comes with the H310), we are supposed to connect from the SAS-A and SAS-B connectors on the card to the corresponding SAS-A and SAS-B connectors on the back plane on the motherboard (yes, even if  you are using SATA drives).   But in the T110 II, there are no SAS-A and SAS-B slots on the motherboard.   We chatted with Dell Sales Support again and they again said that the H310 is supported on the T110 II.

We are hoping to be able to return the card.

Thank you.

I have PERC H700 running in DELL T110II without any issues.  Running ESXi.

Thank you Odessaboy.   We are discussing the H310.

@odessaboy1: I've recently acquired a T110 II from a client and would like to re-purpose it as an ESXi sandbox. Which version of ESXi are you running in your setup? Have you run into any issues since your post?

I can confirm that is working! PERC H310 is working very fine on PowerEdge T110 II. You can see it in boot, configure RAID level and install Windows Server 2008 R2 (i only test it with this version).
