Poweredge 2650 Ram Problems
Hi I have just bought a Poweredge 2650 second hand after sorting out the OS, I left the server on for a couple of hours whilst i went shopping. When i got back the warning light was on after look at the RAC i found that one of the stick of RAM had died so set about trying to find a new one. i cam across a person selling 3GB of Ram across six sticks from a poweredge 2650, i have just installed them in the server but now it wont boot up i just get a message saying "unsupported or incomplet memory in banks 1,2,3"
any i dears would be most helpful

What are the specs of the memory you are using? Is the memory ECC?

hi thanks for getting back to me.
the ram that came with the server (now died) was Samsung, Korea, PC2100R-25330-NO, M312L2828DTO-CB0Q0, 1GB, DDR, PC2100, CL2.5, ECC
the ram that i got of E-Bay is 512MB,DDR,200MHz, CL2, ECC,Pc1600R. Which was pulled from a working Poweredge 2650.
any ideas would be brill
Many thanks

There are two different revisions of the 2650 - one with a 400MHz FSB using DDR 1600 Registered ECC memory, and the latter revision with a 533MHz FSB using DDR 2100 Registered ECC memory. Normally, I would have thought them to be close enough to be interchangeable, but I just wanted to put that difference out there. Have you tried one bank at a time?

Hi
I did not know there was two different types of 2650, ( you would have thought that Dell would have mark them different like type one and two) I have tried just putting one Bank in and i still get the same error.
many thanks

I agree. The 2950 (several versions newer) has them clearly marked with II and III, but the 2650's are not marked (to my knowledge).
