Poweredge 2900 system halted

Dear,

I have dell poweredge 2900 server which gives the error message

PCIe Degraded Link Width Error: Embedded NIC 2

Expected Link Width is x4

Actual Link Width is x1

System Halted

Anyone has solution for this error pls share.

Sorry ... "system halted" ... didn't see that, so ignore the "update" bullet, as you probably cannot boot to anything from which to update :)

This is most often a bad motherboard :(  You could try:

  • Removing any expansion cards (except for RAID card - reseat this).
  • Updating the system firmware (BIOS, ESM/BMC, RAID, NIC).
  • Clearing NVRAM using jumpers on the motherboard (this will reset BIOS settings to defaults, so you will need to change back any special settings you might have (boot order, memory mirroring, device on/off settings, etc.).

I have boot the system on bare minimum configuration but error is same. Also clear the NVRAM but error is same.

I've seen this resolved a time or two using the steps outlined above, but more often than not, a replacement motherboard was required.
