Right, you reseated and that fixes it a lot of the time.

Hi,

Can you run an lspci? It should say what the device is that is caused the error. https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1003916

Took a screen shot but all info in the form of

00:00:00.0 Bridge: Intel Corporation PowerEdge R610 I/O Hub to ESI Port [PCIe RP [00:00:00.01]]

no reference to a "28" unless its in hex.

00:00:1c.0 Bridge: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) PCI Express Port 1 [PCIe RP[00:00:1c.0]]

(1c converts to 28 from hex)

Ran lspi

Nothing jumped out as being a failed device or error.Anything I should look for specifically defined.

Are there any cards in pcie slots? A single instance of the error might be nothing to worry about.

Josh,

Was finally able to get to a point to run diagnostics on the server.

Error found in log file:

Error code 2900:0221

IPMI 4.22.17 5:45 pm

Critical interrupt sensor (PCIE Fatal Err) Bus Fatal Error

The only one is a controller in the long riser. no other add-in cards. the error did happen on 4.22.2017 during a MS security updates to one of the VM's on that host, but has been restarted since then. this is the 2nd time the error showed up. Since I had to restart the server when the error showed this time, I went ahead and reseated the memory and controller card.

Any clarification on what error 2900:0221 or should I just call Dell support?

It is a generic error that says something caused a pcie error. The error code description is the same level of detail that we have access to.

So is your recommendation then to wait and see if it happens again ?
