Looks like memory problem but i "rechecked" the module (one by one) with both Dell and Memtest soft with no errors.
I must said i have no clue : can load dell diag soft from usb key, not from DVD (3 DVD reader tested) but can load Hiren's boot CD from DVD and use any soft with no errors.
This thread is very old, but I thought I would add in a solution for others who experience the Dell server going "Uncompressing Linux... OK, booting the kernel." freeze up.
Check all the cables inside, especially the Sata ones. I tried disabling everything I could and removing cards and tape controllers. No good. BUT, the setup monkey put the Sata CD rom into Sata Port 'B' on the mother board. No problems on a normal computer, but not this one. I removed it and placed it into the Sata Port 'A' on the motherboard and away the server went, booted up to the Universal configuration Utility as easy as pie.
Server was a Poweredge T610 for any Google searches.

OK, thks for your quick response but i have a CD :
"Dell systems build and update utility" bootable CD version 5.3
Problem is when i boot from the CD, the computer freeze :
"Uncompressing Linux... OK, booting the kernel.
Booting the system, please wait... "
and... nothing happen...
Is your DVD more complete ?
Once again, thanks.

I know it's not the Linux support forum but if you have read my first post, i mentionned Windows too...
I think it's a real hardware problem.
Anyway, i'll download the DVD and keep you informed.
Thanks for your help.

Hi,
DVD downloaded and burned.
But same issue as before, boot from the DVD :
i choose : Dell system build and utilities
"Uncompressing Linux... OK, booting the kernel.
Booting the system, please wait..."
...then nothing happen....
Computer remains stuck and i must use the power switch button to turn it off.
Tried to boot from different DVD : Windows Server 2003, Windows XP pro, Windows Vista and same result : computer hangs (change DVD reader too).
No diagnostic leds light on and as i said before, i used the Dell diagnostic utilities twice with no error.
I do need some help, any ideas or advice welcomed !
Thanks.

Burned media isnt always good media.
Reduce Burn speed to 1x or 2x
Use an IDE Drive on the onboard controller. Install WIN9X FAT32 bootable.
If that works install XP without changing the partition.
This is not the support anybody's controller forum.
Boot from a Live Knoppix 5.3.1 DVD.

Maybe i'll try to install Windows from a USB key.

Hello techneoptec,
We had a similiar issue. We couldnt boot from the SBUU or SMTD DVD's.
Tried with three different versions, 5.3, 5.5 and 6.1 without any success.
After alot of hardware replacements and many hours of troubleshooting we started disabling stuff in the BIOS.
Apparently the integrated NIC seems to be the issue. If it's disabled the SBUU will boot correcly.
The problem only occured on the SC440 motherboard with Partnumber YH299.
So.. disabled the intregrated NIC and enjoy your installation :)
