I am replacing the memory with a 4GB kit (2x 2GB), since Server 2003 x86 only supports up to 3.5GB anyways. I did not order the memory from dell. When I get the PC5300 ram, does it have to be ECC?
My favorite site for figuring out what memory works with a server is to look it up at Crucial.com. They're not a bad place to buy if you don't want to order from Dell (which is my first choice).
Looking up your T300 here, it looks like Registered, ECC, CL=5, 1.8v, 512x72 memory is what's needed.
Any time you buy memory, it should be guaranteed compatible with the server. There are sometimes strange memory configurations in the server which must be matched before it will work. It may cost a little more up front but you'll not waste your time and downtime trying different possibilities.

Are you adding to the memory that came with the system or replacing it? The server will accept PC4200/5300. Did you order the memory from DELL?

I just installed new RAM to my T300 an discovered that non registered RAM doesn't work (even if it's ECC). And no, I didn't try to mix. Any Ideas?
