T610 Firmware Updates from bootable media
I need to learn how to fix/update the iDRAC6 firmware and/or the System Services firmware on a PowerEdge T610 using optical media.
Long story short, after various unsuccessful attempts to update this box, the iDRAC6 will no longer initialize and the System Services are unavailable during boot.
I have tried booting from the Linux SLO image, and while that automatically parses and updates what it can, it does not do the iDRAC or System Services.
I've also tried booting from the 2.4 version of the Systems Build and Update Utility, but that then wants me to provide the path to a repository location, and I have no idea how to download or burn this to optical media.
At this point, I just need to be able to get either the iDRAC or System Services working again, and I have to believe there's an option to do this through bootable media somehow.
Thanks in advance for any assistance or insight.
Kerry

Hello
You can try the LCC repair package:
www.dell.com/support/home/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=80XJ1
There should also be a small black box on the system board. Make sure it is fully seated in its slot.
If that does not resolve the issue then you will likely need to replace the system board.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply, Daniel.
However, it looks like the LCC repair package above requires a working windows installation to apply, correct? There is no OS currently on the Server.
Also, I do not believe this is a hardware issue with the board because everything (idrac, System Services etc) was working okay until I attempted to update all of the firmware.
Is there no bootable disk image I can use to simply update the firware for the LCC and/or the iDRAC?

It requires an OS to extract the contents. The update is applied through the iDRAC web GUI.
I don't see how you can come to that conclusion. The opposite is true, that points to an issue with the hardware. The BIOS and firmware on the hardware is still considered to be part of the hardware. If the BIOS or firmware on a piece of hardware is corrupted to the point that the hardware is no longer able to initialize then the hardware typically needs to be replaced. It rare situations the device is able to partially initialize and allow the firmware/BIOS to be re-flashed.
I just noticed in your first post that you also mention the iDRAC is not initializing. The LCC requires the iDRAC to function, so I would stop troubleshooting and trying to update the LCC and troubleshoot the iDRAC instead.
It is unlikely that you will be able to update the firmware on the iDRAC, but you can try. You can boot to the Support Live Image and run the Linux updater. If it gives a message that it is unable to locate compatible hardware then you can't update it. You will likely need to replace the system board.

Here are iDRAC6 troubleshooting steps. Aside from what is mentioned in this document, you should also take the system to minimum to POST to rule out any other hardware issues in the system that may be causing the iDRAC to not initialize. You can also make sure the iDRAC is fully seated in the slot. The iDRAC module is a rectangular black plastic item next to the PCIe slots.

If the issue persists then you will likely need to replace the system board. Before replacing the system board you can try to replace the iDRAC express module if you are able to find one for sale. We do not stock iDRAC6 express modules as stand-alone parts, they are part of the system board kit.
Thanks
