Use Teamviewer or not
Hi,
I am checking for the way to remotely control my Dell server running in Red hat, as I did have some problem to set up Teamviewer within Red hat.

Hello Huamin
The best method would be to use a hardware console interface like the Dell Remote Access Controller. If you do not have a DRAC then you can use a software application like PuTTY or VNC.
If you do not require a GUI or are not running x-server then PuTTY would be the best option. You can just SSH into the server and use the CLI to administer the server. If you are running x-server and require a GUI then I would probably recommend VNC. I have not used it on a Linux box, but on Windows systems it is very responsive and easy on resources.
The Teamviewer installation should be fairly straight-forward. From what I saw on the instructions you just download the RPM and then run it to copy the files over. If you receive any errors about missing libraries or dependencies then just use YUM to install those missing libraries.
Thanks

Thanks a lot. TightVNC/VNC is not preferred as sometimes I can’t use both owing to the ports prohibited.
One question is, I set up Teamviewer in Red hat linux, but Teamviewer can’t generate one ID for itself so I can’t remotely connect to that.

My knowledge of Teamviewer is very limited. I installed it on my home PC once to remote to it from my phone, but that is the limit of my experience with the application. If one of our community members is not able to assist then I would recommend checking to see if Teamviewer has a support site.
Thanks

Teamviewer is a nice program which works well too. The way you want to use Teamviewer will require a Host module running on the server. Normally two people at two ends with Teamviewer installed on each side will have a static Teamviewer ID. Each person will have to give the other this static Teamviewer ID. The person who starts the session will receive a variable password which he will have to give the person on the other side. This works almost always. Teamviewer is very sensitive about using their program in the free private version for Troubleshooting, they of course want to sell a license of their program. If you use their free version of their program, be prepared that someone may cancel the session at any time. They can also see into what you are doing! Setting up a host module will always run on the server.
