XC730xd as file server?
Howdy,
We currently have three XC730xd devices that are running Nutanix as a Hyper-V Cluster. We are migrating away from Nutanix and want to know if we can rebuild these machines as regular old Windows Servers or if there is anything special about them that we would not be able to do that.
We would take all three of the boxes, rebuild them and then recreate them as a DFS cluster or some other usage where we'd just bundle all the hard drives together as a giant file server.
Does anyone know if we can easily do this or not?
Thanks!

Hello
You should be able to use it as a normal server. The XC730XD is an R730XD that is configured specifically for Nutanix with a SATADOM that should have Nutanix pre-installed.
I'm not aware of any restrictions placed on the system that would prevent it from being used for other purposes.
Thanks

Hi, almost 4 years later after original post, but I am also trying to use a XC730xd as a regular server (R730xd). I’m struggling to get the system setup as the Lifecycle controller says there is no RAID device while there is in one.
Thanks for any help.

Hello sgroiwes,
The PERC should originally be currently configured as HBA mode.
Enter PERC H730 controller BIOS, press in POST when the controller initializes, go to Ctrl Mgmt tab, check Personality Mode to change it to RAID mode. : https://dell.to/2TfSfeF
Please let me know how it goes.
