m1000e vlan tagging and io modules

I can't seem to find information on how to do this.  We are running a Dell m1000e chassis, CMC 3.2.1, and a couple of IO modules.  We would like to put the iDRACs in a separate VLAN from the IO module mgmt interface IPs.  When we set it up we had a single untagged VLAN set on the port on the datacenter switch that went to the CMC's copper port.  Since the iDRACs and all the mgmt interfaces come through that same interface we'll need to trunk the two VLANs and change the port config to tagged.  So, since I could only find VLAN settings for the CMC and the individual iDRACs I assumed that the IO modules would live on the same VLAN as the CMC (taking on the CMC's VLAN ID setting).  So I changed the VLAN setting on the CMC and had out networking guys change the port config on the datacenter switch.  Once that was done I was able to get back into the CMC, but was not able to ping or otherwise connect to the mgmt interfaces of the IO modules.  am I missing something here?  Is this something that is not in the GUI or simply not possible?  Thanks in advance.

Stewharr,

How you set it up depends on what datacenter switch you are using. Also, are the IO modules switches, or passthrough modules? Passthroughs should work, but switches will depend on configuration. With Dell units it is switch dependent, so depending on the configuration of the switch it will strip the VLAN ID off and pass it, or keep it intact.

Yet due to the selection of switches (Broadcom, Marvell, etc) the configurations can be completely different.

So could you clarify what IO modules and datacenter switch you are using?

This is a link to some additional VLAN information as well -

Login to the CMC, determine your IO module/switch number by running (iirc) getioinfo, and run the following:

racadm setniccfg -m switch- -v

It worked for me with the M8024-k switches but I can't find it documented anywhere. Thought it was worth a shot as the syntax for setting up a server vlan is

racadm setniccfg -m server- -v
