Dell R710 - Perc 6/i supported disk matrix (4TB support?)

Since H700 does not support disks larger than 2TB. For R710, There is no official way to get support the larger disk? Is it chance with Dell PERC H710 /H710P?

The H700 is supported in the R710 and does support disks larger than 2TB.

i understand the advice to not use desktop drives,  but why not use NAS drives?

The H700 is not validated for the R900, but it may work. Others have reported it to work in 9G systems, with some odd behavior, so there is a chance it will work "acceptably" in a 10G system.

NAS drives are possibly worse than desktop drives. They should be used in NAS devices for which they are certified, not in servers.

• NAS drives are designed to be low power, and often the power-saving features cause drives to go offline when used in enterprise RAID arrays, whose tolerance for response times is very strict.
• They are low performance, spinning at rates often slower than large laptop drives (sometimes 5400RPM, often as low as 4500RPM).
• While designed to be used in RAID arrays, they are typically employed behind a linux-managed RAID system, and not programmed for hardware RAID controller protocols. 

That'd really not true about what you posted about nas hdds, they have feature set of an enterprise hdd (just without sas) basic one been TLER so no way they would normally drop out unless they was faulty (a consumer drive is more then Likey going to do what you stated as it lacks TLER so an error that locks the drive up in error recovery can make the whole disk drop out) 

Now if its an SMR hdd drive (DM-SMR HDDS) then you be right as they are never suitable for raid (be it software or hardware raid) wd was super shady with dropping DM-SMR into a nas hdd that's specifically meant for a raid setup

I need to upgrade the PERC 6i RAID controller card to H700 in my R900. Can you please give some details for the odd behavior in your message above? I just want to make sure, it will work in normal.

Stay away from the h700. If you insist on getting one, you can have an extra one I have here. I recommend the Dell hba 200. I have a few, they work great. These are unraid and allow the mainboard to directly communicate with the disks, allowing zfs, or whatever. So again if you really want a h700 lmk. you can send me a shipping label and ill send it off to you. I have 3 in a box somewhere.

I'm getting one of these R900's to try out with but I really wanted to use 4tb drives, its got the 6i perc card, so I guess I will have to live with the 2tb limits, I am wondering will it work if my 4tb drives are partitioned into 2x2gb each?  or will it just not work/see drive, or would it only show up as a 2tb drive?

I have been debating on trying truenas software which would use the zfs if the hba200 worked but still have to do more research on that. currently I am planning on using windows server 2019 if it will work.
