PERC 4/SC firmware upgrade removes battery option in RAID BIOS
I did a firmware upgrade on a PERC 4/SC with BBU daughter card and now the option in the Ctrl-M RAID BIOS to check the battery says "option not available"
Old firmware was FW1L37, BIOS G119, utility ver U823 dated 8/9/2004
New firmware is FW352D, BIOS 1.10, utility ver U827 dated 1/21/2005

Was this an actual Dell-branded PERC 4/SC card or an LSI-branded equivalent? I only ask because the firmware 1L37 doesn't look familiar, and the Dell website is being ... you-know ... so I can't confirm my hunch that you may have upgraded an LSI controller with PERC firmware ... is that possible?

I believe you are correct! I grabbed a couple of these off ebay to upgrade a couple PE1600SC w/PERC 3/SC's... I went to the LSI website, downloaded and installed their latest firmware (1L51), and the battery option is back. The only major difference I see is Dell has "Patrol Read", but LSI has "CC Restoration" which seems like a background consistency checker.
So, the version on the controller now is LSI Logic 1L51, BIOS G500, U828, 10/14/2005
Any thoughts as to whether there will be issues migrating a RAID 5 array from a PERC 3/SC to this LSI "PERC 4/SC"?
Edit: Now I'm wondering if this card doesn't have Dell firmware on it, will it be manageable from Dell OMSA??.

As to whether it will be manageable by OMSA ... I don't know. A question I've never dare ask by trying :)
Migrating from one controller to another, there is always the risk that something can go wrong - even going from, say, a PERC 4/SC to a PERC 4/SC with different firmware. There is a very good chance it will work, BUT ... just make sure you have a backup :)
