Perc 6/i foreign disk afte reboot/reset but not cold boot.

Hi guys,

We are experiencing a rather odd behaviour with a Perc 6/i to which we have connected two SSD and two Hybrid both in RAID 1 configuration.

The disks are all SATA and the ones we are having issues with are Seagate Firecuda ST2000LX001.

The firmare for the controller is 1.22.52-1909 which should be the last one available.

The BIOS of the server is 6.6.

The server has been configured with ESXi 6.5 despite the OS doesn't seem to be the problem after all as even just after a BIOS change and the consequent reset the array becomes degraded.

In terms of behaviour to recap when the server starts from a shutdown all appears to be fine and both the BIOS and the controller will be going through their checks without any issues. If a reboot or a reset is issued the RAID 1 of the two Seagates will become degraded and one of the disks (00:05) will be marked as foreign.

We have tried moving both disks to 02 and 03 with no joy. We have also tried using non hybrid SATA disks (Toshiba MQ01ABF050) and unfortunately experienced the same results.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

Thanks for the information. We managed to extract the logs from OMSA.

Here is a link to the logs http://codepad.org/VWwIYzcs

BTW how can we upload the logs?

I hope you can tell us more with them.

Really appreciate your help.

HI,
the log is showing that you are using a non-Dell part. Since it's not a Dell firmware it's most likely that's why it has a communication issue with the controller, hence the "foreign". I am afraid using non Dell parts will not be able to guarantee normal functioning.

Hello,

Thanks, we new we weren't using certified disks but since the two SSD didn't create any issues we thought we could make things work for the two hybrids albeit with no warranties and support.

We tried using other two brand and models to no avail before. Where could we find a list of supported drives? How would we go about buying a drive if a list isn't available (we could not find one)?

Cheers,

Hello,

You can get suggestions for solutions suitable for your server by contacting the sales team. Apart from that, you can check the disks on the link here https://dell.to/3eXHG4V You can view the drive with the appropriate filter option. You can then check the compatibility section.

Let us know if it helps.
