PowerEdge 2950 additional non-RAID disk..?

Hi,

Our good ol' PE2950 came with two 73Gb drives as raid.  These are not in use, but I wonder if I can plug in an additional 300Gb drive in the third slot and register it as a single, non-raid drive.

Is this possible ?  If so, how do I do that correctly?

If it is not possible, can I unmount the two 73Gb drives from the raid and add the 300Gb as a non-raid drive...?

Thaks for comments on this

regards Tor

Depends on your RAID controller.

If you have a SAS 5/6, you can add a non-RAID drive.

If you have a PERC 5/6, it does not support non-RAID/JBOD; all disks must be in a RAID array (Virtual Disk) in order to be usable by the OS. To add a single disk, you must set it up as a RAID 0 (the only RAID level that will accept a single disk).
