PowerEdge 2950 upgrade HDD

Hello,

I have a PowerEdge Dell  2950 server and recently  I’ve bought 4 disks ST4000NM0025 Seagate Exos 7E8 Enterprise

3.5" HDD 4TB 512n SAS for an upgrade, but they are unusable in this configuration.

I cannot acces them. The server has 6i controller.

The software installed on the server is Windows Server 2008 R2

I’ve tried to update the controller’s software and now I have SAS-RAID_Firmware_F96NR_WN32_6.3.3-0002_X00.EXE   installed.

Could you help me with this issue, please. I want them to be functional, so what is to be done?

Is there a controller that supports the HDD and the server in the same time?

Or is there an update that I can use?

Thank you in advance for your answer,

Hi Adrian,

Unfortunately the largest size HDD the PERC 6 will see is 2Tb.

Hello

The H700 is the successor to the PERC6i. The H700 supports drive sizes larger than 2TB, but I don't think it has been validated for the 2950. I have seen posts where it has been successfully installed into 9th generation servers.

There are other considerations when you move to drives larger than 2TB. For instance, the system needs to support UEFI in order to boot from a disk larger than 2TB. You can have non-boot disks larger than 2TB on the 2950. Here is an article about it:
