Poweredge R610

I have added 4x2tb SATA hdds in a RAID5 configuration together with 2x300Gb 10K SAS hdds(0&1 RAID1 and 2,3,4,5 RAID5).I have tried it with Perc 6/i fw 6.3.3.0 or H700 fw 12.10.7-0001 .With either controller when i restart the server hdds 2&3 appear as foreign and need to shutdown the system to recognize them, wlile if i shut itdown and start it again they work OK.
Any suggestions???
Thanks in advance
Pete

Hello.

The foreign configuration on the new drives simply means that they have meta data different from the one in the controller. Ideally, you have have to clear this configuration under Foreign View within the controller BIOS or in OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) if installed. If the drivesare initially part of an existing array, import the configuration.

Thanks for the reply Robert.

What bothers me is that the problem appeared almost a week after creating the RAID and copying about 700GB backup of data to it. I was going to put it into production and following a soft reset the server lost the two of the four SATA RAID5 disks flashing them amber and showing them as foreign. After adding them back they rebuild and work OK. As many times as I shut it down the server there is no problem only with soft reset. The other think is that is running windows server 2016.

May you provide more information on the soft reset you are performing?

C3901254 NOT CERTIFIED BY DELL REPLACED THEM WITH DELL ONES.

Although same model works perfectly on another R610 in a RAID1

Every backplane and controller is different. The drive for which you provided a part number is a horrible choice for a server.
