RAID Controller for C1100

Hello all,

I have a Dell Poweredge ("CloudEdge") C1100 server for home lab use.  I mistakenly bought a PERC 5/i controller to do a RAID10 array of 4x 3TB SATA drives.  It works, but the drives only show up as 2TB due to the PERC 5/i limitations.

I *believe* I need to get the Dell PERC H700 controller to support 3TB SATA drives, and I believe I've found a used one at a decent price.  My worry is if it will physically fit in the server, as the current 5/i is a very snug fit.

Does anyone know if the Dell PERC H700 0K883J will work in my C1100?

Thanks for any information.  I have been unable to find any type of Dell documentation that specifically lists the part number compatibility.

Hello synthetiq

Yes, K883J will work. That is the 512MB version of the H700 Adapter. The H700 comes in 3 varations:

H700 Integrated - Will only function in a proprietary integrated storage slot
H700 Adapter - Will work in a normal PCIe slot
H700 Modular - Designed to function only in our blade servers

You don't have the slot for the integrated or modular version of the controller, so the adapter version is what you should use. You can use the 512MB or 1024MB version of the H700 adapter. You will also want this cable assembly:

MRW33 - H700 cable assembly

Thanks

Thank you, Daniel!

I'm now looking for the cable assembly, but cannot seem to locate.

I'm wondering.  I currently have a PERC 5/i with a cable assembly for 4x SATA drives.  Would this same cable assembly work on the H700?  Are the connectors the same?

Thanks again!

No ... the PERC 5/6 use an SFF-8484 connector and the PERC 7/8 use an SFF-8087 connector:

The C1100 has a dedicated expansion-card slot for integrated storage controller cards (see user manual p.75). Apparently it is used with an LSI 2008 SAS daughtercard. Wouldn't the integrated version of the PERC H700 also fit in that slot?

Would the PERC H200 also be compatible with the C1100 and SATA drives? If so, does the current firmware now support 3TB drives? The post below mentions that 3TB support would be available by 2011.

Also, is the MRW33 cable used to connect the H700 with SATA or SAS drives?

Thanks.

Current versions of the H200 firmware support >2TB drives.

SAS cables/connectors will take SAS or SATA drives.  Not sure what the MRW33 looks like.
