[SOLVED] Dell T320 + H710 + IDRAC > 2.30.30: RAC0503

I can't remember all the tests I did but here is a chronological summary as accurate as possible:

• upgrade to 2.63.60 -> KO (RAC0503 error)c
• tried various tricks: iDRAC soft/hard reset, clear BIOS, enter RAID (Ctrl-R +  LiceCycle) -> KO
• downgrade to previous iDRAC up to 1.57.57 -> KO
• deletion of the previous raid configuration -> OK
• reupgrade up to 2.30.30 -> OK
• upgrade to 2.40.40 -> KO
• recreation/deletion of RAID (Ctrl-R + LifeCycle) -> KO
• put SATA mode to Off/ATA/AHCI -> KO
• repurpose or retire system -> KO
• RAID card reset -> KO
• unplugg/plug RAID card -> KO
• unplugg, plug, iDRAC reset (webui) -> KO
• upgrade to 2.41.40 -> KO
• upgrade to 2.50.50 -> KO

That's what I tried.

I put the links I found from people with the same issue: link1, link2, link3, link4, link5, link6, link7.

Two other remarks:

• even if I upgrade the iDRAC, the "iDRAC settings" gets stuck on 1.65.65
• I'm able to see the last logs of the RAID card (creation one) on the webui

I can, of course, provide everything you need, as I would realy appreciate it if it works !

I also plan to upgrade to each version between 2.50.50 and 2.63.60 to see if something change.

You might consider giving this a shot:

Go ahead and update all the firmware back to the latest revisions. If the error recurs during the process, ignore it temporarily. Once all the firmware is updated, you'll want to go into the F2 menu and make sure that the option for "Collect System Inventory on Restart" is active. After you know it is active, shut the server off, remove the PERC entirely, then power up. The server should POST, gather the hardware profile, and then not really do much else. You'll want to shut back down, reinstall the card, and power back up. The hardware profile should again be collected which should bring the controller back in.

Another solution that I've seen work is the installation of the iDRAC Service Module. I don't know enough about how the service module works to even pretend to know why I've seen that work, but my guess is that since the iSM facilitates OS communication to the iDRAC, the controller may get detected through there.

Do these sound like steps you may be game to try?

As expected, each firwmare up to 2.63 gives me the error RAC0503. But as I wanted to test a last thing with the 2.30 (the latest that works), I noticed that downgrading to that firmware (and come from 2.63), gives me the error too ! It's like there's nothing left to understand...

Anyway, once I've managed to have a correct behavior in 2.30, I'll try your 2 propositions, which seem interesting.

As my server is in the bedroom, I can't make much noise, so I'll try tomorrow and let you know.

So, here are the results of my tests:

• iDRAC 2.30.30 + "repurpose or retire system" -> KO
• upgrade to 2.63.60 -> KO
• "repurpose or retire system" -> KO
• CSIR on, retire RAID card, poweron, lifecycle, poweroff, pull card back, poweron, lifecycle -> KO

It's starting to get extremly annoying...

It hadn't had time yet to test the iDRAC System Module on my Proxmox (which I plan to install).

Another information that may be useful: if I use the racadm command, the RAID card/configuration seems to be recognized:

great news today ! I managed to install iSM with help of that tutorial, and now everything works fine

Just installed v3.4.1 for Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic, which works well on my proxmox, and now, no longer RAC0503 issues. I even have the hostname, the OS, the ip addresses in Proxmox, etc... Well, work done !
