Upgrade help: PERC 6/i to H700 on Cabled R410

Bought a used R410 and realized after the purchase that there were two chases types one with hot swap drives (contains backplane) and a cabled version. I have the cabled version.

I wanted to upgrade to the H700 as I understand it was capable of 6Gbps vs 3Gbps (and also had SSD support).

I (foolishly) purchased the cable separately, assumed the mini-sas breakout cable to 4x SATA + power would have been long enough to reach the drives - but it’s too short (the cable that came with the PERC 6i was longer but was the 'wide-sas' format); likewise I can’t seem to find a cable online that’s longer than the current one that works. The cable from the PERC 6/i is some wide SAS format If I plug the cable in to the 16-pin power, I can reach the hard drives; but not the mini-SAS on the H700; if I plug the mini-was cable in to the card I can’t really reach the power.

Someone else had posted a SFF-8087 to SFF-8087 coupler and then purchased an additional mini-SAS cable and I wanted to confirm that this was my only option. The coupler @ $59.95 plus another cable will be over $100 once all is done - just wanted to see if there were other options.

PacketBoxer,

The part you would need is cable 8FF8M, which runs from the H200 or H700 controller to the hard drives.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply Chris - it would seem this is a super rare cable. I found a few companies in the Netherlands/France/Europe that have the cable but surprisingly not having luck in North America. As a result shipping is pricey so I might try the coupler.

It appears the part I ordered from ebay was:

Part Number: M800G 0M800G

Will 'X394K" also work? I've found that cable on eBay.

Yes, that part number does appear to be compatible with the R410.
