2011 DELL R910 - I want to add RAM. What size DIMMS can I use?
Hi guys,
As I mentioned in the title I want to add RAM. Currently I have 32 4GB DIMMS, and this is not enough. Also 4GB seems rather paltry these days when the price point on 16GB DIMMS is good. My question:
Am I stuck with adding more 4GB DIMMS, or can I mix in some 16GB jammers? Tell me what the best method is, and maybe add a part number for me if you would be so kind.
Thanks.
Processors (4) x PROCESSOR, E7540, 2.00/6.4, 18M, XMD, D0
DIMM: DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 4GB, 1333, 2RX8, 9J5WF, BIC

Hi Jack,
Mixing memory is not recommended for 4GB DIMMs and 16GB DIMMs as it has not been tested. You can refer the table below for detailed configuration.
The maximum memory you can currently get for this server is 32GB per DIMM x 64pcs since you have 4 CPUs. The PN #M9FKF for 32GB DIMMs.
Alternatively you can also install 16GBs onto the risers you have in the system. The would be PN #MGY5T.
Do let me know if you need further assistance. :)

Is it possible to use 2 of the 16gb DIMMs per riser, (CH0, slots 1 and 2) for a total of 256gb? I can see where that can be done with 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, and 8gb DIMMs, but nowhere can I see if this is supported for the 16GB or 32GB DIMMs. I would rather use 16 of the 16GB DIMMs than 32 of the 8GB ones.
