2950 Power Consumption

Oddly enough I can't find the information internally either.  I've gone through all engineering sourcebooks, briefs, and legal verbage and it's all based on woodcrest plus a relative % of what wattage difference there should be on clovertown vs woodcrest. 

 

I'm pinging some internal sources to try and find out what the scoop is.  I might only be able to get some basic spec information.  What exactly is your config (2.5", 3.5", how many drives, memory, load, etc)?

 

PS - in the future, for faster response, go to your sales rep, account rep, or TSR and have them do an RFI (request for info) to engineering for this environmental data instead of Esupport.

Click on technical specifications.  In the future, go to support.dell.com, click the manuals link, put in the system, thumb through the links until you find tech specs or environmental specs.  Each generation is posted a little different on our site.

For calculating power consumption, use the Dell Datacenter Capacity Planner tool which is available at: http://www.dell.com/calc. 

 

Specsheets and sourcebooks, while accurate in their approach, quote engineering maximum values for the particular system. In other words, they're spec'd fully loaded and running at 100% - not your average data center implementation. 

 

The DCCP tool allows you to select the procs, drives, mem, etc. and approach a more realistic value.

 

Assuming I got your specs right in my head when I launched the tool, your draw will be 521 watts, 2.5A (at 208v,) and requiring 55 CFM of cooling capacity.

The DC planner tool is a nice utility but the problem is that it is only reporting the dual-core Woodcrest processors.  This individual is asking for Clovertown quadcore power consumption. 

 

I'm trying to confirm with our engineering group what the power consumption is at this time because it's not published internally or externally unfortunately.

 

 

The customer notes the Intel X5355 quad as the processor of choice and it  is included in the DCCP tool along with five other quads and ten dual core procs.

Maybe I should spend some time using this tool instead of just fixing $100,000 servers?  ;)
