8gig simms compatible with poweredge 2950
I have 32 gig in my Poweredge 2950 (8x4). I run Hyper-V on it and am out of physical memory to assign to new VMs. I have tons of disk and CPU left. That means to go to 64gig, I have to yank 32gig (which I will then have no use for) and Dell wants $8300 for 8x8 gig of memory. That's absurd. The entire system was only $7000 with 32gig. It would make more sense just to buy another whole server.
Am I just looking for 8gig DDR2? Or is there anything special about these things?

Nice HOT machine!!!....
Dells price does not seem off the mark. Checked a few other suppliers, same or higher prices....

To run VM (s), it not worth it. Your would be better off with another server fully populated with 4 Gig modules, which are about $168 per module , in pairs are still 1/3 the price of a single 8 gig, with a limit of 40 Gig on the mobo. If you go with the 8 Gig modules, you can run your VM, but your VM is handicapping your server anyway, so you might as well have two thoroughbred servers instead of one handicapped. Even if you must run a VM, the second server could focus most of it resouces on the VM.
I do not know you raid setup (drive specs look good), but if you go another unit, get the same drives, make sure you get a spare drive or two.
