Achieve better than 1280x1024 on E2208WFp plugged into KVM with 30 ft. VGA cable?

I have a PowerEdge 1950 and I've connected a Dell E2208WFp to it using a 30 ft VGA cable. But this long VGA cable is attached to a StarTech KVM switch that was also purchased from Dell. This KVM switch has DVI connectors and I've had to use a VGA to DVI adapter for both the input and output.

When I turn on the monitor and the server has booted into Windows Server 2003, the Display Properties resolution settings only go up to 1280x1024. I KNOW that if I just used a standard 6ft VGA cable plugged directly into the server, then I would get the maximum resolution of 1680x1050.

(If I used the Dell driver for the monitor, I'd only get a max of 1280x1024 and if I used the 'Default Monitor' driver, then i'd get a maximum of 1600x1200).

Is there a way to get up to 1680x1050 or is it due to the 30 ft VGA cable that Windows Server 2003 is not detecting the 22" monitor properly, thus preventing from going up to its native maximum resolution?

How do you "KNOW" that the resolution is higher with the standard 6ft cable?

The video controller in the system dictates its maximum resolution, which happens to be 1280x1024.
