Adding 16GB RAM Modules to PowerEdge r610
Has anyone got this to work? I am looking to get 96GB installed into an r610 with 6x16GB DIMMS. If so, what slots/memory settings are required for successful install.
Thanks
Colin

CG_12345,
If you have 2 processors and the BIOS Memory Mode set to Optimized then you will need the simms in slot A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, and B3 (slots with white tabs). If one processor then it would be a1-a6.
Also, to use 16gb dimms be certain the BIOS is up to date as well.
Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for the reply.
BIOS @ 6.3.
With your suggested placement BIOS shows per below but will proceed with f1 keypress. However System halts and reboots just after showing windows 2012 splash screen. Rinse and repeat thereafter.

In your screenshot you can see that there is an error stating the following "MEMTEST lane failure detected on DIMM B3", the error is due to invalid memory configurations and maybe.... due to the processor as well because all the errors on the slots belong to the second CPU. So try removing the second processor and install all the memory in Channel 1. And check if all the modules work. If it does work then install the second processor and trying swapping the memory modules around.
Try installing the memory as per the following guidelines mentioned in this document - http://i.dell.com/sites/content/business/solutions/whitepapers/en/Documents/server-pedge-installing-upgrading-memory-11g.pdf (make sure you are referring to PowerEdge R610 as there are other servers info mentioned in that doc).
P.S: There are many other similar cases like the one you are facing and many feel its due to the latest BIOS update (6.3.0). Swapping the memory and the processor might help.
Hoping to hear from you!! :emotion-1:
