All three Bank B memory modules show Critical Status

Recently I found my Poweredge 1850 locked up. Black screen. After powering off the server and restarting it, I was informed that there were memory errors. I was able to boot the server successfully, then I used OpenManage tool to check out what was going on. OpenManage showed that 3 of the memory modules were in Critical mode. Oddly, every one that was Critical was on Bank B.  I don't know what the odds of that is, but I'm pretty sure the odds of 3 bad out of 6 total modules, all occupying Bank B, is pretty slim.

I then turned off the machine and replaced both DIMM3A and B. I rebooted, and again, I'm warned of memory issues. When I checked OpenManage, once more, all of the Critical status modules were reported to be on Bank B.

Again, what are the odds?

Does anyone know what all of this is telling me regarding the server?

Hello

I would suggest that you test with a single DIMM configuration in slot A1. You may have to populate A1 and B1, but most of our systems support single DIMM configurations for troubleshooting. One DIMM that is having issues can cause false errors on other DIMMs. You will need to move memory around to find out if it is a DIMM issue or a slot issue.

Thanks

Look for bulging/failed capacitors alongside that bank of memory slots.
