BIOS enable SLAT (EPT) no possible

Hi,

I have dell T110 (bios 1.6.4) with intel G6950  run hyper-v 2008 r2 SP1 and some VM 32bit and 64bit all work fine. I have upgrade my hardware with video card (asus g210 silent 1GB) my target is enable hyper-v RemoteFX in windows 7 enterpride VM. I have discovered I can't enable RemoteFX because there is not enable EDP in the bios, I have used utility "coreinfo.exe" http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/cc835722.aspx

Now  processor  setting in the bios are:

Virtualization technology                            enable

Execute Disable                                         enable

C States                                                     enable

and if I use microsoft utility coreinfo.exe

coreinfo -v:

HYPERVISOR      *       Hypervisor is present
VMX                      -       Supports Intel hardware-assisted virtualization
EPT                       -       Supports Intel extended page tables (SLAT)

but, if I disable "Execute Disable"

coreinfo -v

HYPERVISOR      -       Hypervisor is present
VMX                      *       Supports Intel hardware-assisted virtualization
EPT                       *       Supports Intel extended page tables (SLAT)

but this point I can't run VM because "Hypervisor is present" is disable.

I don't understand how enable "EPT" together "HYPERVISOR"

I hope in nice solution.

Regards.

Giovanni

ok, I need use other CPU I have dell sc440 with xeon 3050 ark.intel.com/.../Intel-Xeon-Processor-3050-2M-Cache-2_13-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB

the EDT is supported, but is 2007 server and I'm not sure bios support EDT.

Yes, that should work.

Please refer to Dev Mgr's post. Your CPU does not support EPT.

Thanks

If you compare Intel's detailed specs on the G6950 to the specs for a newer i3-3110, you can see that Intel lists "Intel® VT-x with Extended Page Tables (EPT)" for the new processor, but not the older G6950.

I suspect your G6950 just doesn't support EPT.
