Can not turn off IDE CD-ROM Interface

I have a poweredge 1550 and a PowerApp 120, I tried both them, once I set the IDE CD-ROM interface to off in CMOS, my windows 2000 ( and 2003) will go to blue screen, once I set it to auto, the windows start normally.

In one of the machine, cd-rom is broken, that is why I want to turn it off to avoid it show error message, but not sure why that setting makes windows go blue screen.

Any idea?

thanks!

Try disable it in Device manager then in the bios, my guess will be Windows 2000 will be looking for it.

What is the BSOD that it is giving when turned off?

Also, in the one machine that it is broken, you could take it out of the system or have you already attempted that?

I don't see Device Manage in BIOS, but I did disable cd-rom in BIOS and that is where the problem  come from.

The problem lasted for years, and I tried all different ways to fix it.

Luckily I just got it fixed, I upgraded BIOS from A06 to A09, and the problem is gone.

Thanks
