I was able to flash the BIOS on my Dell R210 II XL OEMR server back to the standard Dell BIOS version 2.8.0 by creating a DOS USB boot drive, copying the non-packaged Dell BIOS file, in my case I used PER210II_020800.exe, then running the following command:   "PER210II_020800.exe -wipeclean -forcetype".

The -wipeclean switch clears the ESCD and DMI data tables, and the -forcetype switch forces the BIOS file to install on any Dell server.

Here is a list of other switches used during BIOS update.  Be careful though, you could easily brick your server if you use these incorrectly.

I am using the correct firmware version (Hard Drive: http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER02276516M/1/PER210II_020800.exe) in my original post when the error occurs. As mentioned in the original post I downloaded the firmware right from the dell support downloads page after entering in my service tag. Please advise.

Can you help clarify what method you are using to apply the BIOS update, and also what OS version you using?

To use the following BIOS you need to create a USB DOS bootable thumbdrive with the file on it and then you execute the file. Please see the attached screenshot in the original thread for more information. Again, here is the file I am using:

Thanks for the clarification.  If your system is an OEM configuration, that would explain why the error occurred. You would need the use a custom OEM BIOS for that system.

Here is the OEM BIOS page for the R210 II.

If you are unsure of the the system OEM type please private message me your Service Tag and Express Service Code. We'll be glad to look it up in our system for you.

OK I just sent you my service tag number. When I enter in my service tag number it lets me download the bios however on the non OEM page. Let me know if I still require the OEM BIOS downloads though.

Thanks for the service tag. Yes indeed, your system uses an OEM BIOS for your company and requires you to use an OEM BIOS update.  The support page will always pull your tag and direct you to the normal Drivers & Downloads page because your system will still use all other drivers and firmware updates.  It is only your OEM BIOS that requires special handling.

In some cases, a company can have a custom platform that they have created in which even our OEM BIOS will not update. In such cases, they have to go directly to the company responsible for the custom platform, whether their own internal IT, or third party maintained source.  According to our experience with your company, this should not be the case, thus the OEM BIOS link I provided should be good to for you.

Let me know if that clears things up for you.

I tried to flash the system with the BIOS you provided me (811E-020800.exe) and now I receive a different error:

The BIOS image does not support the current hardware configuration. Flash update is aborted.

Would it be possible to escalate this issue to a product specialist? We are trying to build out a demo environment in our Websense lab and this is holding up our project. We need to be on the latest BIOS revision to continue. Please escalate.

Sorry the delay.  There is OEM support which requires that you have your OEM passcode. The passcode is specific for your OEM setup.  If you got your system from a re-seller, then you can get the re-seller to assist with the issue.  If you are the re-seller then your account team can get the passcode and provide you with the proper channel to escalate to OEM support.

I have been told there is a Dell VM image we can use to fix this problem. Can I get access to this image? See below:

Did you use the dell VM image?  Dell has a specific build for their servers and VM ESXi

Unfortunately, there is not aware such an image for updating your OEM BIOS.  I found the listing for your company regarding your OEM BIOS.  It states that the systems uses a  locked OEM BIOS and you will not be able to update it. If you are a contractor, then you must contact the company associated with the service tag that sent me in order for them to provide any authorized OEM BIOS updates.   When you power on the system it should have the custom splash screen of the that company name instead of Dell.

Hi there,

Has anyone been able to update OEMR R210-II from BIOS 1.1.1 to newer version? I'm having the same problem discussed above with "BIOS image does not support the current hardware configuration" error.

Thank you.
