Change MAC address on PE 2950

Hello,

I know it's a stupid question, but how to change a MAC address on a PE 2950 (broadcom NIC)? I googled for an answer but could not find any.

The machine used to run a licensing system, linked to the MAC address. The licensing system has been virtualized, so I had to use that same MAC on the VM. Now I need to assign a new MAC to my machine before I can use it.

TIA,

Olivier

There isn't a way to change the MAC address on the server.  For virtualized environments, you will need to either clone or find another way to provide a MAC address for your virtual sessions.

Like Geoff mentioned, there is no way to change the MAC address on a network card. On Dell's M1000e blade chassis there is a way to mask it, but that's only on their blade chassis.

You have 2 choices:

- sell the 2950 to someone else to prevent having that same MAC in your network

- block off the port that has that MAC and if needed add additional network cards to the server and use those ports

Thank you.

I will try a third option first, changing the MAC from the OS.
