DAT72 Compression (Travan)

Hello. Can anybody shed some light on this backup log from the Windows Backup utility? I have compression on but it looks like the tape is getting filled at 27gigs and then looks for another tape for the remainder of the backup. I thought a DAT72 tape could hold much more than that compressed...this log suggests that compression isn't working or that it's not compressing very much at all. but even so, why is asking for a 2nd tape at 27 gigs if it holds 36 natively? Thanks!

I am having the same issues with my PowerVault.  It just started this week and I don't know what to do.  Were you able to resolve this at all?  I have already rebooted the server and have also turned the hardware off and back on again and no help.  Thanks!

It turned out to be a combination of a scheduling issue (we had two Friday backups running) and the fact that the compression ratio was ridiculously low.

The solution was to break the 40 gig Full backup into two separate backups done on different nights.

Thanks for the info.  How do I remove the dup back up run?  Or even start all over with the back up schedule?  Thanks!

I don't use any backup software.  I just use the built in backup app that came with my sbs 2003 server. But I will check the task scheduler.  Thanks for the info.

What backup program do you use? There should be a scheduling area where you can see what's being run and when.

You should also check the Task Scheduler in Windows as many backup programs simply hand the duty off to it instead of using their own built-in schedulers.

Ok, so you use the backup that comes with SBS? Better take a look at MS knowledge base about that because there were some issues between this utility and SBS. I recall reading about a patch to take care of some things...not sure if it's the same issue but if you do some research on the MS KB it'll turn up some info.
