DSET- CentOS 6.2- x64 - and problem with Suse libs
Hello,
I downloaded delldset_v2.2.125_x64_A01.bin and I installed it.
Also I installed missing libs required to generate report.
Dset is working fine and generate report.
But I notice that after I installed Dset I got extra packages in system.
I run "yum check" and I got this:
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3.i386 has missing requires of libgcc_s.so.1
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3.i386 has missing requires of libgcc_s.so.1(GCC_3.0)
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3.i386 has missing requires of libgcc_s.so.1(GCC_3.3)
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3.i386 has missing requires of libgcc_s.so.1(GLIBC_2.0)
smbios-utils-bin-2.2.26-3.1.sles10.x86_64 has missing requires of libsmbios2 = ('0', '2.2.26', '3.1.sles10')
smbios-utils-bin-2.2.26-3.1.sles10.x86_64 has missing requires of libsmbios.so.2()(64bit)
smbios-utils-bin-2.2.26-3.1.sles10.x86_64 has missing requires of libsmbios_c.so.2()(64bit)
Error: check all
Looks like they are for SUSe Linux and they have been installed by DSET
Now I have this error every time I try to install some packages.
I hope someone can help me to fix this problem.
My server is Dell PowerEdge R710

There is a bug with version 2.2 of DSET overwiting those library files. I still recommend that you uninstall/reinstall those libs even though they are currently installed.
Thanks

Hello Bartekl
When you were installing the DSET utility did you choose the option to permanently install, or did you choose the option to create DSET only?
The reason I ask is that there was a bug in DSET 2.2 for Linux that was corrected in later revisions. It occurred with a specific version of RHEL and I'm not sure if CentOS 6.2 was affected. The problem is that it would not recognize glibc.i686 or zlib.i686 as being installed. Since it would not properly detect them it would overwrite those two libs during installation. It would then delete those two libs after the DSET report was run or DSET was uninstalled, depending on the method selected.
If that is what has occurred then the resolution is to reinstall those libs:
yum install glibc.i686
yum install zlib.i686
If you need to use DSET on any other systems running this version of CentOS then I recommend that you use something other than 2.2. I hope this helps.
Thanks

Hi,
Yes I permanently installed DSET. And after that I got a mess in the system.
But it's not the problem with missing or not recognised zlib.i686, glibc.i686 because DSET is working and it generates reports. Any way i checke and these libs are fine.
But thanks any way.

Hi,
It looks like even I will permanently install or just run DSET it always overwrites libs and it does mess in the system.
And I don't see other version which will be better than 2.2 DSET. There is any other
solution to use DSET without problems ?
Thanks

Version 2.2 is when we started adding support for SuSE. I think that the changes made to work with SuSE are what cause the detection issues. I thought we had a newer version that addressed this problem, but I do not see one. Here is the last 64 bit version that was not designed to function with SuSE:
http://ftp.us.dell.com/diags/delldset_v2.1.1.Rhel6_x64_A00.bin
I have also heard that the 32 bit version of DSET does not have this problem. You should still be able to run 32 bit applications on most 64 bit OS's as long as they do not contain 16 bit threads in the program. I don't think DSET has 16 bit threads, so the 32 bit version should work.
