Dell PowerEdge 2950 Wont boot & intrusion errors

I have a 2950 first generation which I have had sitting for a bit while I have moved rooms, and now after returning to it, it no longer boots. When plugged in the power button light goes green as if it was on, but displays nothing, fans don't spin up, and even while the the panel in on, it gives and intrusion error. I have tried reseating ram and cpu, and while removing the bios battery gets rid of the intrusion error, it still wont turn on.

Other than sitting for a couple months nothing has changed in configuration, and I have no idea what could have caused this. If I could get any help at all, I would love to get this server back up and running.

Psuedoneophyte,

I would start by taking the server to its minimum to post configuration, which is removing everything from the server (internally and externally) except for the following devices.

•System board
•Processor (with heatsink) in socket 1
•Two sticks of memory in memory slots 1 and 2
•1 power supply
•Control panel (to turn on system)
•Sideplane
•Both PCI risers; PCI-e in center slot, (PCI-e or PCI-X) in left slot

After that then power the server and see if it completes post. If so then power down and individually reinstall the removed devices back into the server until the issue reappears, identifying the problem device. If you are able to reinstall everything and it still powers up then likely it was something loose.

Let me know what you see.

I knew I’m a few years late almost 5 to be exact lol but your answer definitely answered my questions. I know these things are old probably outdated, but I was given one recently and I decided that maybe I would start breaking it down and selling it for parts, but I didn’t know if it would even turn on to which it did but was reading errors. I’m gonna start breaking it down the way you said and see if that helps me out at all. But as far as my question goes, you answered it. Thank you so much five years later Lol you’re appreciated
