Dell PowerEdge 4600 doesn't boot

Hi,

I have a problem with a used PowerEdge 4600 which I bought.

After pushing the power button the system begins to start and on the monitor you could see the DELL logo with an progress bar and the revision (A13) from the BIOS. My problem here is, that this operation doesn't finished. The progress stopps at 20% and I doesn't know what the problem is. The system doesn't comes to the point where I can use F2 to enter the BIOS configuration.

The status LEDs doesn't show any problems. I replaced the battery on the mainboard and reset the NVRAM. I also unmounted all PCI cards, reduced the ram and changed modules, but nothing did solve my problem. The system has two CPUs. Until now I didn't removed one or changed them.

Has someone an idea what the problem is or what i have to check?

Kind Regards

jedo

I had a similar problem with a 2850, however, it was working fine and started exhibiting the same behavior after i moved it from one rack to another.  turns out, after checking, pulling and reseating the CPU's, RAM, cards, drives, battery, etc, that the problem was the PS/2 keyboard plug was not fully plugged in, i'm talking 1~2 mm left to go.  pushed it in and got past that 20% POST mark.

not saying this will be the problem, but i've found that dell PS/2 connectors are finnicky and the keyboard/mouse connection is often overlooked.

good luck.
