Dell PowerEdge 840 Server - How to set-up?

I bought this on Ebay. It came with no hard drive so I bought a 1TB Western Digital. How do I get the hard drive set up for this server. I have to install a OS system on it, so I was going to put Windows 7 on it. Then I want to put Server 2008 on it I think. Do I install it in another machine to get it formatted? In the past, I have put a new hard drive in my desktop computer, but that already had one hard drive in it, so it made it easier to format and install the new hard drive. This server has to be setup. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Put the drive in, boot to Windows, and install. If it doesn't find any hard drives during Setup to install to, then you need drivers for the controller the drive is connected to … we can help you if you get to that point, but we will need to know what controller it is connected to: onboard/motherboard or a card/backplane.

I was over thinking it. Instead of making a selection of one of the three options above that I mentioned, I just pushed F1 to continue and had the Windows 7 installation disk in the CD-ROM drive. The Windows installation started and installation is now underway.  now I am to the point where it says Where do you want to install Windows? in the window the only option is "Disk 0 Unallocated Space". I installed the hard drive into Bay 1 instead of Bay 0.  Is that ok? I just clicked on the defaults and let Windows 7 install. Am now working on installing windows updates and then I need to install Server 2008. Am I on the right path?

Yes, you are fine. Disk 0 is the number assigned to the "disk" by WINDOWS and does not necessarily correlate to the physical slot number on the server.

I am looking to buy Server 2008 software for this 32-bit machine but I can only find 64-bit. Does this software not come in 32-bit?  Do you recommend a different version of server software?
