Dell PowerEdge T610 - Enable Virtualisation Technology without BIOS
Hi Everyone,
It appears my BIOS/motherboard developed a fault and I'm not able to make permanent changes to the BIOS settings anymore. I'm more or less OK with the default settings however there is one option which I must enable to be able to use the server as a VM host: Virtualisation Technology or VT. It's disabled by default unfortunately. So here goes my question:
Is it possible to enable VT outside of BIOS?
OR
Is there a BIOS version that has it enabled by default?
I'm currently on 6.6.0.
Thanks

Lojo,
I would start with seeing if we can correct the underlying issue of it not retaining the BIOS settings.
When did the issue of the BIOS settings start, and what occurred before it all started happening?
Also, would you confirm what location the NVRam_CLR jumper on the motherboard is currently in, is it covering pin 1 and 2, or is it on 2 and 3?
I ask because if it is on 2 and 3, it could be the cause of that, so if it is on 2 and 3 then power down and move the jumper to cover 1 and 2, then power up to BIOS and see if configuration is retained after setting VT.
Another thing that may be occurring is that the coin battery on the motherboard needs to be replaced.
Let me know what you see.

Thanks for the response.
I had created another thread for the underlying issue to try and fix that first:
https://www.dell.com/community/PowerEdge-Hardware-General/T610-Caution-NVRAM-CLR-jumper-is-installed-on-system-board/m-p/8328878#M76910
However we appear to have reached a dead-end there and I wanted to keep the VT issue separate as it is not tightly related. If you think otherwise I'm happy to close this thread and continue with the original.

Ok, continuing with this thread then.
I already explained these in the other thread but I will confirm it again:
- The server was working absolutely fine for years however after a planned system reboot I started receiving the following message in BIOS during bootup:
Caution! NVRAM_CLR jumper is installed on system board. Please run SETUP
- The jumper is on pins 3-5 as per the T610 owner's manual.
I've tried moving it to 1-3 / removing completely to no avail.
Note: the jumpers look like this:
2 4 6 PWD_EN 2-4 PWDR DIS 4-6
1 3 5 NVRAM_CLR 1-3 NORMAL 3-5
- The coin battery has already been replaced.
Thanks,

Hi,
if you checked everything it could be only that the jumper is defective or the motherboard.

I've checked that too. With the jumper installed pins 3 and 5 are shorted.
Thanks
