Dell R710 add additional memory

Hello,

I have recently acquired a Dell R710 with 96gB, "6x16gB 2Rx4 PC3L-12800R" of memory. Memory is in slots A1, A2, A3 and B1, B2, B3. I will be using this system as a single ESXi host in my home.

If I want to add another 96gB of RAM, are either of the following options acceptable?

- 6x16gB (A4, A5, A6 and B4, B5, B6)

- 12x8gB (A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, A9 and B4, B5, B6, B7, B8, B9)

I would be using "2Rx4 PC3L-12800R" as I know that there are issues with quad rank modules.

Other suggestions are welcomed.

Regards

I would recommend first option of all 16GB memory. Refer below link for details

https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_poweredge/poweredge-r710_user%27s%20guide7_en-us.pdf

you can mix 8GB and 16GB also on same server. You need to ensure "General Memory Module Installation Guidelines" mentioned on page 129 of below link are followed
