Dell T140 memory confiuguration: help

Hello!

I have a T140 tower server since years, equipped with 2x 8 GB RAM from the factory.
I just got a new RAM expansion, one piece of 16 GB

In this moment I have the following config

Slot_1 : 8 GB from factory
Slot_2 : 8 GB from factory
Slot_3 : free
Slot_4 : free

Where should I place the new 16 GB ?

Thanks

You can refer below link for more details on memory population guidelines

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/poweredge-t140/pet140_ism_pub/general-memory-module-installation-guidelines?guid=guid-acbc0f13-dedb-492b-a0b0-18303ded565a&lang=en-us

As per above link, you need to install 16GB DIMM's on A1 and A2 and 8GB DIMM's on A3 and A4

  • Populate all the sockets with white release tabs first, followed by the black release tabs.
  • When mixing memory modules with different capacities, populate the sockets with memory modules with the highest capacity first.

Thanks.
I already had a look at the document you suggested.

I have ONLY ONE piece of 16 GB memory. Can I mix different capacity on same channel?

Now I have:
Slot_1 : 8 GB from factory
Slot_2 : 8 GB from factory
Slot_3 : free
Slot_4 : free

Is this correct:?
Slot_1 : 16 GB new
Slot_2 : 8 GB from factory
Slot_3 : 8 GB from factory
Slot_4 : free

or this one:?
Slot_1 : 16 GB new
Slot_2 : free
Slot_3 : 8 GB from factory
Slot_4 : 8 GB from factory

If you have only one 16GB DIMM then you can try the mentioned combination and check the behavior.
