Dell poweredge R620 hard disk degradation

Question

Hello, For the last 3 months our R620 server has problems with degraded hard drives. It has RAID 1 (disks 0,1) and RAID 10 (disks 2-7). Each time a new disk is degraded. After the first case, we did a full initialization of arrays. But it didn't help. When one disk is degraded it is rebuilding and the server works stability for some time. If several disks is degraded, the server reboots and displays the error message. One disk is becoming ‘Offline’, other disks are becoming ‘Foreign’. We can’t find any reason for such unstable work of the server. So logs from iDRAC are in attachment. The server is under the control of MS Windows Server 2008 R2. We didn’t take any changes in hardware (all components are default). What can be a reason or what we should check? Thanks in advance for your help.

From the logs it appears a lot of what you are seeing could be attributed to the server being out of date on firmware. Would you confirm the versions of the BIOS, iDrac, and definitely the raid controller installed? Depending on how far back they are we may need to walk them up to current.

Let me know the versions and we can go from there.

After first crash we updated all firmware and drivers. And now we have :

PERC H710 Mini;

iDRAC7
Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller Version - 2.20.20.20 (Build 41)

BIOS Version 5.42.00.1_4.12.05.00_0x05290003

But it did not solve the problem.

Thank you. You stated that when the drive is rebuilding then it is stable, does the issue appear after the drive finishes the rebuild? Is it the same drive that is repeatedly the one that fails or goes foreign?
