You quite likely need to replace the disk. A flashing amber LED on the drive would indicate that it has failed. If it has indeed failed, it's not an active array member and you can replace it. The controller should automatically begin to rebuild onto the new drive. You'll want to install OpenManage or MegaCLI, so that you can check the status of the rebuild, without one of those, you can't check on progress.
Thanks!! for the response. Just one more thing; I have a new unit but it has some files on it. Do I need to prepare it ? apply some format ? Please confirm.
I would like to use a barely used spare hdd. Please confirm, if what I did is ok before replace.
Using perc from another identic server , installed repacement hdd, create a raid level 0 and run slow init. I have not errors.
So , it means that hdd is ok to be used as replacement ? (capacity is same).
About replacement proceadure. Since it is a hotswap sistem , I will take out failed disk and insert replacement one. (Of course during maintance windows just in case). So ... what should I expect upon here ?. Will be there some led flashing secuence ? Will be there some message on front pannel ? Server will reboot to rebuild raid? Should I do something on booting utils ?
also, you dont need a maintenance window. Its hotswappable, it will not disrupt anything. You do not have to reboot the server. You put the disk in then look and make sure the amber lights are now flashing green lights. The flashing green lights indicate it is rebuilding.

you do not need to do anything to the disk. Whatever is on there will be written over in the rebuild process.
