Flexbay - R740XD - single Raid and global HS
Hi, we plan to buy a R740XD with 28 disks. Within shop we see the option "Chassis with up to 24x2.5*HDs, No Mid-Bay, 4x2.5*HDDs in FB for 1 and 2CPU" The question is whether you can form a one RAID with the normal HDDs and the HDDs from the Flex Bay or at least use an HDD from the Flex Bay as Hot Spare for the whole bunch. Hope you can give me a hint. Regards

Hello,
The flex bays are on a separate backplane that cables into the front backplane. For this reason, those drives can be managed by the same PERC and kept in any array on the controller.

Hi
that’s great!
Just two little questions
1) does it have to be a special kind of perc?
2) what would be the max count of spindles in one R 10 (from the 28 possible disks)
best regards

They can all be spindle drives, if you want. I'm not sure what power supplies you have, but you may want to double check that you have the highest wattage. I would expect that to be a factor when adding that many hard drives. As for the PERC, I would recommend either the H740, or the H740P. The H330 would be able to handle the drives, but I think it would likely become a performance bottleneck because this controller has no cache capabilities.
