Getting error attempting to update BIOD on 1950

Attempting to update BIOS on 1950 (OEM model) and get an error stating "Cannot use a "Dell System PowerEdge 1950" Bios in a " -  ".

I am guessing that the " -  " part of the error message is due to thge fact that the system is an OEM. I am trying to upgrade to the pe1950-020500C.exe Bios downloaded from the Support site. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I was able to upgrade the same system using the OEMR-1950-BIOS-020403C.iso image which was found and downloaded on the Dell Australia Support website. Why can't I find the OEm 2.5.0 Bios anywhere?

On the support.dell.com website, (under drivers & download) use this selection path to obtain the OEM BIOS:

Desktops > Pentiumr System > External OEMR , then select your server model.  Your 205C BIOS will be listed.

I inherited the maintenance on a server farm for network video recorders, some of which are Dell 1950 PowerEdge.  I am having this exact problem too.  At first, I plugged in the Service Tag and downloaded the bios flash associated with that service tag.  When that didn't work, I found these suggestions in this forum, and tried several other versions of 1950 bios, and always get "Cannot use a "Dell System PowerEdge 1950" Bios in a " -  ".  There are too many of these servers to just toss them in the trash right now, but I will have to if I can't update the bios.  If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears.  Thanks

Have you tried Richard's advice?  As OEM, you should have a support number to call that should be able to help you.

You said you'll have to throw them in the trash if you cannot update the BIOS ... what is the problem with them - what are you hoping to fix/gain by updating the BIOS?

Thanks for the reply.  Yes I tried Richards advice, and several other versions of the 1950 BIOS.  I tried to answer you earlier, but was censored by Dell. (and I really didnt say anything bad) ..  To answer your last question, the 1950's randomly halt (known bug) and upgrading the BIOS is supposed to help this problem.  Anyway, thanks for the help.

Try this, found this on a forum: get the bios update you run from a dos prompt( not the windows based one), then run the filename.exe -forcetype

I tested using the -forcetype switch and it worked on my PE1950. Highly recommend you double and triple check that you have the correct BIOS before running this switch as it will force even the wrong BIOS on your system, and that would obviously be a very bad thing.
