Hmmm, not sure about actual electrical code on this. But all our racks are grounded to building / earth ground through a dedicated big ol green ground wire. I think the electricians came back in after the racks were installed to do this. It was a newly built dedicated computer / server room though. I'd still at least consider having an electrician come in and really ground it if I were you. Probably only take 1 hour labor. Ground potential differences can create all sorts of head scratching oddities with servers, storage, and networking.
Thank you for your feedback. I think I might end up doing just that. Though grounding the rack through the UPS would have saved an extra wire (I have already too many).
Dell's rack-mounted UPS have a ground screw on the rear face. It is the typical green ground wire. If you are implementing REPO, Dell UPS have two REPO connections for cascading capabilities.
