HELP! Linux on a PowerEdge 1400sc
I can't seem to get any linux distro installed on this old PE1400sc. I'm no whiz with computers but I play with a lot of old PCs (get a batch of them whenever my friend's company upgrades) using various flavors of Linux and never had this much of a problem before. The PE1400sc is one of the older ones with a 933mhz Coppermine, 512mhz RAM, 10GB Fujitsu SCSI drive, and a Lite-On DVD writer. Nothing is in the PCI slots. I Flashed the BIOS from A05 to A09. Didn't look like anything else from the drivers and downloads part of the site applied to this model with what it has in it. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG OR NOT DOING RIGHT? I've tried many distros: Ubuntu, Mepis, Mint, Slackware, Fedora, Zenwalk, and Gentoo. Either it hangs while loading SCSI or I get I/O errors from the disc drive while it's installing. Ubuntu 6.10 installed but runs with problems. Ubuntu 7.04 install CD hung while loading SCSI and upgradeing from 6.10 left it unbootable. Gentoo installed fine from GRP but I couldn't emerge anything because of compiler errors (yes I had the arch and use flags set properly).

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
Every PowerEdge 1400 server is built to the customer's order and shipped directly from the factory. To take advantage of the growing market for Linux-based servers, Dell can install the Red Hat® Linux 6.2 operating system on the PowerEdge 1400 server at the factory.
The 1400SC has a ServerworksServerset LE 3.0 Chipset.
Get IDE drives and use a Promise PCI UDMA IDE or SATA controller.
The 1400SC employs a ServerWorks ServerSet 3 LE chipset offering a 133MHz FSB and support for PC133 SDRAM memory. The NIC is an Intel integrated Pro100+ chipset.
The 1400 Has a dual-channel Adaptec AIC-7899G Ultra160 chipset.
7899 AKA OEM Adaptec SCSI.
Some Models come with PERC 2/DC PCI RAID controller card.
Definitely runs Solaris
