Hello

Yes, it will affect the BIOS that can be installed on the server and anything else that verifies the model before installation.

The system will identify itself as an R720XD if it detects the right front ear. If that part is not functional or not detected by the system for any reason then the system will identify itself as an R720. Make sure the cables are connected to the ear. If the issue persists after verifying proper connections then you will need to start replacing parts.

Is the right front ear the only piece it uses to identify itself? it seems to be fully functional right now, video comes out when hooked up to a monitor and usb works just fine

would it be a bad idea to make a bootable USB to update the BIOS instead of using iDRAC and do a "clear CMOS" then update via USB then to a /forcetype update?
