How to activate 4 CPUs of R820 server?

I saw the PCie slot instructions for Process 1/2 in the User manual. However, for 3/4, it does not exist in the document , I want to configure the server using all 4 Cpus. If you want to activate 3/4, where should I connect to PCie slot?

Hi, I couldn't find an extra specific guide other than the one you found. But please be careful upgrade to 4 CPUs because I saw this explanation: https://dell.to/3OcFb2j

Your system supports two types of processor configurations:

  • Four-processor configuration — Ships with a processor expansion module (PEM) that consists of two processor sockets (CPU3 and CPU4) and 24 memory module sockets.
  • Two-processor configuration — Ships with a cooling shroud. The cooling shroud must be installed at all times to ensure adequate airflow within the system.

remember too that you need to use E7 family xeons to run in 4 cpu mode, E5 family can only run in dual cpu mode.

Dont have a 820, but based on other 12th gen family servers, pretty sure they need to be v1 or v2 family. And v2 family requires updated bios and correct mobo to work.
