1. Create the Asset Tag utility diskette from the download above - or from the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant CD (DOSA) 2. After making the diskette, perform a safe reboot to the diskette created in step #1. 3. After booting to the diskette, enter the following command (substitute the actual 5-7 digit system Service Tag for the X's); asset /s XXXXXXX 4. Once this action has completed, the system can be rebooted.
I am afraid I have no advice, except what the failure message said, disable the system password. I have never seen this problem on a PowerEdge Server and I have no experience on the Latitude platform.
You might try posting in the Latitude BIOS section:
There is not a setting in the bios for changing the asset tag; I have sent you the asset. iso to help with this process. As far as the system password, you may need to check with the Latitude support group.

Hi,
The asset.com utility can be found on our FTP site in the Utility directory:
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/utility/assetA00.exe
Directions for entering a Service Tag Number:
1. Create the Asset Tag utility diskette from the download above - or from the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant CD (DOSA)
2. After making the diskette, perform a safe reboot to the diskette created in step #1.
3. After booting to the diskette, enter the following command (substitute the actual 5-7 digit system Service Tag for the X's); asset /s XXXXXXX
4. Once this action has completed, the system can be rebooted.

Hi Shannon,
What system do you have? If it is on one of our portable products, I understand the procedure is more complex.

Why not to try doing this over PXE?
1,44" floppies images are easy bootable with memdisk..

I have an OptiPlex 745 with a new system board with the same issue.
Also there is not a System Password setting in the BIOs would this utility allow me to enable and set one?
