RaKaNRpG,

If the server is really out of date on BIOS and iDrac I would look at walking those 2 up to current incrementally, prior to installing the OS. After that it would depend on how you intend to install the OS, such as with using the Lifecycle Controller (LCC) or just straight OS media. If you want to use the LCC then I would suggest updating the OS driver Pack, found here, it will ensure it uses the proper drivers and such. Now you can also just boot to the OS media itself to install, as the drivers for the hardware are also native to the OS media.

Let me know if this helps, and how it goes.

Hi, there is no document reference other than the release note in the firmware updates, but I would suggest incremental update across all hardware suggested by Chris.

thank you all for replaying and helping. Finally I update my server through SUU, now I would like to know if there is any difference if I installed my OS through the LCC and boot it from the cd immediately.

thanks again

W2k12 and even W2K16 can be installed directly from the MS CD/ISO without the help of LCC(which isnt a self explained process if you do it once in a lifetime). After finishing the OS installation just take a look into the windows device manager for unknown devices and compare if there are newer windows drivers for network/raid/system available on dell.com.   Neither the fw or os driver are behind a paywall.

If youre there dont forget to download and install OMSA. We use OMSA 9.5.0.1 (again we have Windows 2016).

Regards,
Joerg
