Installing Windows NT4 Server onto a PowerEdge 700
Has anyone ever tried to install Windows NT4 Server onto a PowerEdge 700? When I'm installing it, it starts to load the initial drivers but it only goes so far and reboots.
You are probably asking why I would want to bother. Well, we need a DR server with NT4 installed just in case things go wrong with our other servers.
The question is, can you install NT4 Server onto it and if so, how do you do it.
Regards,
Jamie

I made a very similar post about the PowerEdge 750, but the PowerEdge 700 has the same internal hardware.
NT 4.0 was not tested or validated on the PowerEdge 700, but I do understand your problem. I have 2 suggestions which "may" work (but I would not hold my breath). If the problem is solely with the CDrom, you might have success. If the problem is with an incompatibility with the Intel E7210 chipset, (Canterwood ES), the chances of a successful install are very slim.
If you are using the SATA drives - forget it. NT 4.0 will never recognise the controller and there will probably never be any drivers developed.
1. Use F6 to load the Scsi drivers (from floppy) and the ATAPI IDE drivers from the NT 4.0 list (you have to scroll way up the list).
2. Try this download to make bootable floppy with IDE drivers for the CDrom. Copy all the /i386 folder from the NT 4.0 CD to the hard drive and run WINNT.exe from the hard drive. Use F6 to load the Scsi drivers (from floppy) and the ATAPI IDE drivers from the NT 4.0 list.
Please let me know how it turns out.
Thanks for using the Dell Community Forums!

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately it's got SATA disk drives in it so I'm going to give up.
Thanks anyway,
Jamie
