Installing a GPU in a R410
I can't add images so will have to try and explain, I have a Perc/i6 raid controller that I don't really need I was wondering if I can take it out and use a cable straight from the HDD backbone into the PCI riser that has the same port.
As this backbone has 2 of these ports I was hoping I could just use 2 HDD bays on 1 port, and also hoping I could use the riser boards socket I know it's a long shot but in theory it may work, this would allow me to install a GT710 or my old HD5450.
I know people have installed GPU's into these servers; some without any luck but If I can sort my storage issue out I can move onto that one later

Hi,
R410 is relatively an old server, my memory of the server cabling might be rusty. I don't think it can work, as the SAS port on the riser needs the RAID controller for communication. Unless you use the SATA onboard port. I might be wrong, but try removing it and access to the onboard RAID controller, S100. See if it's detected, if yes, you might be on your intended path.
I can't speak about GPU installation on server, as it's not tested and verified it's working. You may need to try it, and probably good that you could give us a feedback.
Let me know if you have other questions.

Thank you for your reply, I think I'm going to get a SAS to SAS cable and try setting up without the raid controller, I will leave a reply if I get around to doing it. although I can't see many people in my strange situation.
